If I switch to Cox, can I keep my current phone number?
Yes, in most instances, Local Number Portability (LNP) allows a customer to change local exchange carriers and keep their current phone number, even though they are now serviced by a different provider.
Will my house have to be re-wired?
Probably not. You may need a re-wiring if you want an outlet in a place that isn’t pre-wired or if there’s a problem with the pre-wiring, but that’s unlikely.
Will I have to buy a special phone to use Cox Voice?
Your current phone should continue to work with us, because we use the same type of switching equipment and software as other phone service providers.
Can I make a phone call and watch TV at the same time?
Yes. Our broadband network allows you to use multiple services at the same time—including TV, Internet and phone.

What’s the final phone service price?
The final phone service price on your bill will reflect four groups of charges: your phone plan price, additional monthly services you’ve opted into, a monthly FCC access charge of $6.00 and any local taxes and/or fees. The advertised rate includes monthly recurring service fees but excludes equipment charges, directory assistance, operator-assisted calls, per use or à la carte features, and charges for long distance and international calling not included in the calling plan.
What if the power goes out? Will I still have phone service?
Unfortunately, the modem uses household electrical power to operate. Therefore, telephone service, including access to e911 service, will not be available during a power outage without a battery or if the modem is moved or inoperable. New modem installs do not come with a battery. You may purchase a battery from Cox.
What equipment will I need? Are there monthly charges for equipment?
Since Cox phone service provides high quality voice connection to residential customers in Cox's service area, a telephone modem is required. A telephone modem will be provided to you at no additional cost for the duration of your phone service subscription. Upon disconnection of phone service, the modem must be returned within 30 days or a monthly rental fee or lost equipment charge will apply. Upon disconnecting, you will be given instructions on how to return your modem in the allotted timeframe. Of course, if you have any questions, you can always contact us.
How does installation work and what can I expect?
Our standard installation fee of $100.00 applies to most installations. Phone services often require professional installation so during checkout, you’ll be able to select an available date and time that works best for you. You may notice that some dates may be further out, but don’t worry, we’ll contact you shortly after your order has been submitted if we have any sooner dates come available.
How does unlimited long-distance calling work?
Your unlimited plans long distance minutes are limited to direct-dialed residential, non-commercial voice calls within the United States, to Canada, and to landline phones in Mexico, and require subscription to Cox for local, toll and state to state long distance service. Calls to Mexico that terminate on a cell phone or other wireless device will incur a $0.10 per minute charge. Usage that is not consistent with such use may subject your account to review and/or suspension or termination of your service.
What is changing about Cox pricing? What can I change after I sign up for Cox Services?
With our new flexible pricing options, you can buy only the services you want rather than signing up for multi-product bundles. You can build your own package by starting with our discounted Internet offers. You can always add TV, Phone, or Homelife Automation at our everyday prices (then-current regular (non-promotional) rates) and remove them without impacting the rates on your remaining services. If you want to change the tier of any of your services, like a different Internet speed or TV package, we will work with you find the service that meets your needs, but your rate and available discounts will be different since you are changing the level of services you are subscribed to. If you sign up for an Internet Bundle, removing either Panoramic Wifi or Cox Complete Care from your bundle will cause you to lose your bundle discount and promotional pricing. If you choose to sign up for a term agreement to get additional savings, ETFs apply for termination of your Internet service, but not if you cancel your TV, Phone, or Homelife Automation plans. If you’d rather not to make a commitment on your Internet plan, options are available without a term agreement for an additional small monthly fee. Homelife Security with Starter Equipment Kit requires a separate 2-year term agreement with ETFs.

Cox Voice Preferred
Available to new residential customers in Cox serviceable areas who newly subscribe to Cox Voice Preferred service and who have not disconnected from Cox Digital Telephone or Voice in the last 30 days. Cox Voice Preferred consists of a Primary Phone line with 14 calling features, voice mail and Unlimited Domestic Long Distance to the U.S., Canada and Mexico landlines.
Charges included
Includes monthly charges and applicable discounts, one-time charges, and activation fees. Prices do not include applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges. Excludes charges for subscribed services. Prorated charges may appear on your bill if you change services before the billing cycle is complete. Prorated charges are not presented here. Pricing, packages, and policies are subject to change.
Long distance calls
